Endowed by a mystery donor, this warehouse in the docks of Fukuoka certainly looks the part, eschewing a trendy downtown location for grungy dockland.
4 artists in residence occasionally display their work. There is not always an exhibition "in progress" so it is best to call first and ask. Most artists we have met have at least basic English ability, some speak very well indeed.
Situated in the docks. Directions: on foot (17 min from Tenjin) - get yourself to the KBC building. Head north on main road between KBC and KBC Cinema, staying on left. Follow road as it curves to the left and then right for about 600 metres. Pass the JCOM building (big sign) and turn left at the KOKUYO building. Take next left (you are coming back on yourself slightly, the sea is on your right) and look out for the sign on a warehouse on left side. (If you get lost, head for the Fukuoka BAY Love Hotel (very visible, but noticably absent from the official map!), then walk away from Tenjin with hotel on your right.) Bus: In front of Mitsukoshi, Bus 1b to Nanotsu 4 chome. At last stop, you'll see KOKUYO building - follow directions as above.
