Bayside Place Type: Leisure Spots (Qjmp: 7003)
Shops and restaurants around local ferry terminal.
 | Local ferryport |
Dockside leisure redevelopment and ferry terminal for boats across the bay and to islands just off the coast (Iki, Tsushima, Shikanoshima). Contains a number of shops and restaurants, none of which need detain the casual visitor although they do close pleasantly late. Once popular among the young as a romantic dating spot it has now faded rather in their affections. There is fireworks display in summer. It is dominated by the (free) Hakata Port Tower, which has rather more character than the newfangled glass stump up the coast. One feature of interest is the giant single tank aquarium in the main building.
Bayside Place is pleasant enough, but there is nothing to draw the visitor back - like several recent redevelopments in the city, it lacks "soul" and will be more fun in a few years when it has "aged" a little.
For more info, check out "Bayside Place" in the "Locations" pulldown at the top left of this page.

Various halls and rooms for hire.
 Local parking is 300yen/hour
It is possible to walk from Tenjin (head for the coast, turn right down Nanotsu-dori, then follow the signs). It is about a mile. Otherwise bus or taxi is best although it is possible to walk from Gofuku-machi subway station if you are moderately masochistic
